Chicks 2015 (3 images)
Three weeks ago Yr 3&4 put 14 eggs in an incubator and then last week, 9/14 have hatched. The 5 eggs that havenít hatched were bantam eggs, the 9 that did hatch were ordinary henís eggs. The incubator mimicked a mummy hen by keeping it at body temperature and turning the eggs every so often. When the eggs decided to hatch, they first poked a hole in the egg and then made a little crack, they also rocked. When they came out they were very tired. We put a cardboard box in the ICT suite and put a water bowl in there. We put a heat lamp over the box but it still took them 24 hours to dry out. Our class fed the chicks, chick crumbs and boiled eggs chopped up. They have now gone to live with their mother hen at a farm. Emily Strong
